Today’s word prompt is choice.

I like the freedom of having choices. Yet at the same time, I find making choices difficult. How does that make sense?

I guess it must come from needing to feel some sense of control. I am told it is stronger in people who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences or trauma in their childhoods.  I have to keep reminding myself of that with the little one that is temporarily living with us. I’m very much not a fan of chaos and do like to know what to expect. Somedays it is nice to go with the flow and just let what happens happen. Mostly though I like some sort of a plan.

Thinking about the word choice, we have so many choices that we make each day and give it not a lot of thought. We can choose to sink or swim. We can choose what time to go to bed or what we are going to eat.

It reminds me of the old saying “To not decide is to decide”… By not making a choice we are still choosing.

You are free to make whatever choice you want, but you are not free from the consequences of the choice. – Ezra Taft Benson

In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the choices you make. – Abraham Lincoln

When faced with two choices, flip a coin. Not because it will decide for you, but because in that brief moment, you’ll realize which choice you truly hope for. – Unknown

  1. “’To not decide is to decide’… By not making a choice we are still choosing.” — Very true.
Interesting last quote by Unknown. I’d never thought of that, but that rings true as well.

  2. Having too many options can make it harder to make choices, even when we like having choices. Ugh. I like the truth in the quotes you chose, and that last one is a really interesting way of looking at it, and the more I think about it, the more accurate it seems. Visiting from FMF#13
