The importance of having Goals and a vision

The importance of having a vision of how you want things to be or go is the first step in success at anything. Not having a vision for your life or project is going to keep you from knowing when you have succeeded. Did you know that even though some folks use the words vision and goals interchangeably they are not the same? A simple description of the differences is found here.

Taking that first step

The first step after writing down your vision for your present or future in your life is to list goals. Goals should be listed as either immediate, short term or long term. Goals should be S.M.A.R.T goals. I am sure you have heard of these type of goals. Though I admit I did not know the term until a few years ago when I heard one of my kids teachers using the acronym. If you want to know more about how to create a smart goal look here.

Brian Tracy not only tells you more about S.M.A.R.T goals he provides a free template to do so. He is also the author of Eat That Frog. A term I just heard for the first time this year. So on to the next step what vision or goals do I need to set?

In this particular post I am going to be focusing on the vision and goals for my blog. These same tools can be used to set vision and goals for anything in your life. For what area of your life would you like to determine your vision and goals?

Questions to ask

Questions to ask are “What do I want my______ to look like in a year? “. “What do I want out of my_____?” “If I could do anything I wanted what would it be?” “How will I know when I have succeeded at my goal?” These are just a few questions to ask ourselves. There are so many more that could be asked.

My vision for this blog is that I can share and spread awareness of mental health issues and hope to help reduce the stigma associate with it. I vision sharing information on homemaking, homesteading and self growth that others find useful.

My Goals for this blog

Goals I have in the immediate are to get readers and followers who like reading my content. Short term goals for the blog would be to share information and education by posting a minimum of two posts weekly. This goal gives me a chance to practice and improve on my writing skills, to express myself and to share resources. My end result would be providing information that is helpful to others as helping others is one of my bigger immediate, short and long term life goals.

I hope this post has given you some food for thought on the importance of having a vision in your goal planning. Final tip is not only making a list on paper or bullet journal but go a head and make a visual board to hang up in a place to remind you of the goals you have set and the vision you have.
