Its that time of year, the days are getting longer. Spring is in the air the snow and ice are melting. It is time for hatching chicks, sprouting seedlings and tapping trees. We have only about a 1/4 of an inch of sap so far but it is supposed to start running good soon. The turkeys in the incubator are due to hatch any time now. One has externally pipped a hole in the shell. We have seedlings sprouting up in the seed trays we’ve started. …
Maple Syrup: Time To Tap Those Trees It won’t be long before Maple Sunday is upon is. Spring is in the air today. Tonight is daylight savings time. In spite of having to wade through 3 feet of snow my husband went out and tapped our trees today. We have 10 buckets up. That is the most we have ever put up. I don’t think we’ve ever put up more than 4 taps. They are predicting it is going to start running next week. That is also around the time our turkey eggs in the incubator should hatch. I am…
Suzy Snooze Night Light, Sound Machine and Monitor This is something I would think about adding to my wish list if I was expecting a baby. The alternative that I found and ended up buying is the Hatch Rest which I will be reviewing soon. The combination of a monitor and sound machine with night light would have been awesome to have when my twins were newborns. Why would a sound machine benefit? Here is an article about how white noise can help soothe babies. I know from having my six kids that sometimes it was so difficult to calm…
National Cereal Week I found out through a Kellogg’s ad that today is National Cereal Day. This is also National School Lunch Week ( March 4-8). The ad mentioned how cereal has been a staple in our lives as breakfast during Saturday morning cartoons in our childhood through late night tv snacks as adults. So I started thinking about my favorite childhood cereals. Do you remember if you had a favorite cereal? What was it?? After having to go gluten free due to celiac disease and diet changes microscopic colitis I have had to give up some of my…
Talking Turkey This year we decided to focus on adding turkeys to the homestead. I didn’t waste any time I found some turkey eggs for sale and went to pick them up. It has been a few weeks since they have been in the incubator. I candled them and it appears the majority of the eggs in the incubator are developing. One of the batches of eggs I bought are a cross between white midget and blue slate. They are due to hatch just before St. Patricks day. Stay tuned for hatch updates. Update We ended up with only 2…
The Journey Begins: Thanks for joining me. Welcome. I started this journey while completing the Build Your Blog Bootcamp Ruth Soukup was running on Facebook. Through that bootcamp I met a lot of wonderful writers and have been very inspired by them all. I started blogging in hopes of using my words and experiences to help someone else. If you don’t see anything here of interest yet please give me a second chance. This is a work in progress and there is a lot yet to come. The topics that I feel drawn to share more about are the experiences…
Amazon Give Back Box Program I heard something recently that I thought was neat. I have been recycling my Amazon boxes but I just heard of a better way of using them. They have a box recycling program called the Give Back Box. “The goal is to encourage Amazon customers to re-use their boxes to donate clothing or other goods to GoodWill Industries.” This program has apparently been around since 2012 and I am just now hearing about it 7 years later. They even pay the…
Those that have known me awhile know I have struggled for years with a history of chronic depression. I loved my children and family, but life continued to be a struggle to stay balanced. It always seemed as if something was missing. After finding light at the end of the tunnel would always seem to come another storm drowning out the light. It was not an instantaneous process to get a grip on. I still have to fight the depression by trying to live my life the best I can. Its important to take things day by day while feeling…
A gluten free bread review for you When I first became diagnosed with #Celiac I posted about trouble finding hot dog and hamburger buns to replace the ones I was used to. You can find that post here. Gluten free eating has come a very long way since I was first diagnosed. I am happy to say there are several bread choices now. I was going to talk to you about Canyon Bakehouse #CanyonLoveAtFirstBite but I see that a blog I follow is featuring that one right now and I don’t want to be a copycat. Check out more about…
Think Spring Mr. Groundhog says spring will be here sooner rather than later. This is a cute kids craft that popped up today. Turning egg cartons into cute spring chick treat boxes. I’ve been seeing seed and poultry advertisements start popping up. To have a successful spring with my poultry and plants I guess I need to make a plan. I had not planned to hatch this year but my husband and I plan to buy turkey poults and focus on turkeys this year. We decided that this would be the year I put more focus on turkeys instead…
