an Are you ready for Easter 2019? The Easter dinner groceries are bought and put away. Tomorrow we will be boiling and dying eggs for Easter morning. Some of my eggs won’t need dying thanks to my Easter Egger chickens. Tomorrow I am going to boil eggs in my Instant-Pot for the first time. I have heard it said they are the best boiled eggs ever. I will be trying this recipe from The Prairie Homestead. When I was browsing pictures of dyed eggs I found so many ideas. I decided I wanted to share the roundup of Egg…
Goals and Lifelong Learning I set myself a few goals this year to learn about a few new subjects. How about you do you have anything on your list that you want to learn more about this year? Do you have any big projects you want to get done on your homestead or home? I have mentioned before that I consider myself a life long learner because I love learning new things and am often signing up for free information sessions. A few months back I heard the term “Ultimate Bundles” mentioned. Not knowing what that was…
I am linking up at Farm Fresh Tuesdays, Its been awhile but I am happy to be back at the blog hop. Goals for the winter During the winter I hoped to check off a lot of these things mentioned in this article about winter homesteading activities. Strengthening your homesteading skills and staying productive during the winter was the focus of this article. There was another great article that inspired me in January and It was by the Tannehill Homestead. It was very inspiring and added to the inspiration I was feeling to be as productive as possible. Now…
A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned As I was cleaning out my ‘saved’ articles from Facebook I came across this link. This gave me food for thought. Can I be more of a producer than consumer? Can I cut down on wasteful spending through some of these ideas? A penny saved is a penny earned is a saying I heard often used. I already do some of these things. I don’t consider myself a prepper or necessarily organic but I like this way of thinking that The Organic Prepper has shared. Thinking about Doing It Yourself How about you,…
Fern Michaels what? I thought this series ended. The last blog post I wrote I was about to read book 20. Apparently I lost track of the Sisterhood series by Fern Michaels. I didn’t realize there were 9 more books after I read Home Free!!! Plus there are 5 The Men of the Sisterhood series. I also have to check and see if I finished her Godmother series. Looks like since my eyes are making reading hard I need to see if these audio books are in my library. Have you read any good books…
Chicken Coop Light Solution My husband was tossing out a hanging light that was being discarded on one of the job sites. Then I was inspired and wanted to turn the wire shade part of it into something for the chicken coop. I have been using some solar bulbs out there that I bought on Amazon. I was looking at those bulbs and the old light fixture and had an inspiration. Then I took the solar light bulbs and hung them by the hooks they have on them to the metal light fixture and then hung that…
I would like to say I have grown both as a person and as a writer. Writing has always been a love of mine but due to my low self confidence it was something that I rarely dared to share. It is definitely not something I would have dared share publicly.
Gluten Free Bread Choices The Beginning: When I first was diagnosed with celiac disease finding things that tasted good was a lot harder than it is now. Celiac was suspected in 2010 and confirmed in 2011. I wrote my first bread review in 2011 when choices were a lot slimmer. You can read that old post here. Lets talk about gluten free bread choices and variety. There are 4 brands that I have purchased. which brand I pick up depends on which store I am at, if I have coupons and what the final price would be after…
The importance of having Goals and a vision The importance of having a vision of how you want things to be or go is the first step in success at anything. Not having a vision for your life or project is going to keep you from knowing when you have succeeded. Did you know that even though some folks use the words vision and goals interchangeably they are not the same? A simple description of the differences is found here. Taking that first step The first step after writing down your vision for your present or future in your life…
Harmony Homestead Happenings It is the first day of spring and yesterday my rooster found his crow. The days are getting longer and I am finding one duck egg a day. Now if only the hens would start laying again. We had eggs due to hatch over the weekend. It was not a huge success. I did have one poult who is seeming to be healthy and strong and another one who is struggling. Since turkeys do not do well alone and actually do well when they have some chicks in with them to teach them to eat and drink…
