My May Goal Quick Recap At the beginning of May I posted a roundup of activities, challenges and my goals. I wrote a post using specific prompts for May’s linkup on A Chronic Voice about my struggle with chronic illness. I made some improvement on some of my goals and fell very short on some. It is a new month and I am not giving up. It is a new month with a fresh chance to achieve those goals. June Observations This month there is National Adopt a Cat Month, National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month and National Camping Month.…

The Dandy Dandelion Dandi-lions Yes, I know I spelled that wrong. I know it is spelled dandelion. I was thinking about how I like the name, which is comprised of two words. Dandy and Lion. I wondered also how much trouble this spelling of dropping the Y and putting the E in its place when combining the words causes for kids just learning to spell it. In an earlier post, I started talking about dandelions. There are many more recipes and uses for these plants than I could have imagined. I decided it was worth giving them their post on…
Spring Chick Days 2019 It is spring time and spring chick days started at the end of February. Tractor Supply is running a fan photo contest. Here on Harmony Homestead I had a hatch that had only 1 turkey and they do best when they have chicks with them to teach them to eat and drink. We didn’t want him to be lonely so ventured out to Tractor Supply to find him some friends. Surprised I found two ducklings that were marked down to .50 cents each, They had to come home with me. I also brought home four bantam…
an Are you ready for Easter 2019? The Easter dinner groceries are bought and put away. Tomorrow we will be boiling and dying eggs for Easter morning. Some of my eggs won’t need dying thanks to my Easter Egger chickens. Tomorrow I am going to boil eggs in my Instant-Pot for the first time. I have heard it said they are the best boiled eggs ever. I will be trying this recipe from The Prairie Homestead. When I was browsing pictures of dyed eggs I found so many ideas. I decided I wanted to share the roundup of Egg…
I am linking up at Farm Fresh Tuesdays, Its been awhile but I am happy to be back at the blog hop. Goals for the winter During the winter I hoped to check off a lot of these things mentioned in this article about winter homesteading activities. Strengthening your homesteading skills and staying productive during the winter was the focus of this article. There was another great article that inspired me in January and It was by the Tannehill Homestead. It was very inspiring and added to the inspiration I was feeling to be as productive as possible. Now…
A Penny Saved Is A Penny Earned As I was cleaning out my ‘saved’ articles from Facebook I came across this link. This gave me food for thought. Can I be more of a producer than consumer? Can I cut down on wasteful spending through some of these ideas? A penny saved is a penny earned is a saying I heard often used. I already do some of these things. I don’t consider myself a prepper or necessarily organic but I like this way of thinking that The Organic Prepper has shared. Thinking about Doing It Yourself How about you,…
Chicken Coop Light Solution My husband was tossing out a hanging light that was being discarded on one of the job sites. Then I was inspired and wanted to turn the wire shade part of it into something for the chicken coop.   I have been using some solar bulbs out there that I bought on Amazon. I was looking at those bulbs and the old light fixture and had an inspiration. Then I took the solar light bulbs and hung them by the hooks they have on them to the metal light fixture and then hung that…
Harmony Homestead Happenings It is the first day of spring and yesterday my rooster found his crow. The days are getting longer and I am finding one duck egg a day. Now if only the hens would start laying again. We had eggs due to hatch over the weekend. It was not a huge success. I did have one poult who is seeming to be healthy and strong and another one who is struggling. Since turkeys do not do well alone and actually do well when they have some chicks in with them to teach them to eat and drink…
Its that time of year, the days are getting longer. Spring is in the air the snow and ice are melting. It is time for hatching chicks, sprouting seedlings and tapping trees. We have only about a 1/4 of an inch of sap so far but it is supposed to start running good soon. The turkeys in the incubator are due to hatch any time now. One has externally pipped a hole in the shell. We have seedlings sprouting up in the seed trays we’ve started.               …
